Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that’s almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country – but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment.Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there’s the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There’s also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users’ access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars OK – range could be better
I bought this on a recommendation from IT at work, so it must be a good product…and it’s okay. However, after I set it up I discovered the range wasn’t so great…barely reaches to other side of house or to yard. Now, I see there are stronger models available from Cisco. I wish I knew that before I bought.

5 Stars The best router for my house!
This is the second router I have purchased through Linksys- The first one was the wrt54g- That router lasted almost 3 years and I am very pleased with the steady service I receive from it and wireless use via my Wii and my laptop.. This router was extremely easy to set up and I have been using it two weeks without any issues at all! For the price, you can’t beat this router!

4 Stars Wireless made Easy
This is a great basic router for the home wireless user. Easy to set up and works great. Good range and very reliable. Priced very good for the features vs. other more expensive models and brands with features average users don’t need.

2 Stars Difficult and time consuming to setup
The instructions say to run the CD setup first.

The setup failed. I called tech support. You WILL NOT get a native english speaking person. This is not just a language issue. These people say phrases that do not make sense to an American or native english speaking person.

The first thing the tech person told me was “we don’t use the setup CD”!! Well, why do the instructions tell you to install THE SOFTWARE FIRST?

Very poor setup.

And the wireless range is not adequate. Had to buy a Range Extender. Poor. Two devices just to get 100′ range of wifi.

PS and the support on the Range Extender was really poor. I spent 2 hours on the phone on my very cherished Saturday morning…oh wait, it’s now afternoon.

LINKSYS I hope you read these comments….you need to improve the setup and tech support process and range.

5 Stars Best. WAP. Ever.
I’ve bought numerous WRT54GL’s for myself, friends, family and clients. I won’t vouch for all Cisco-Linksys routers as they do make some garbage. However, this is one fantastic piece of hardware. Whether you use the default firmware or rig it up with DD-WRT, it’s a great WAP. I’ve been buying these for years neither I, or anyone I have bought one for, have ANY complaints. It’s a shame this device might be coming to a slow end as a 802.11G device, but I’d still buy this WAP over most N-devices out there. It’s that good.
