It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. It is important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and that of air-borne particles, such as smog. The latter is made up of opaque matter that absorbs visible light as well as UV, and will not be appreciably removed by a UV filter.The UV Protector shields lens from dust, moisture, scratches, and breakage.

I bought this to protect my Canon 18-135mm 3.5-5.6f lens. It arrived in fine condition, and was very easy to attach.

I have noticed no abnormalities in image quality, and it’s perfectly fine (and cheap enough) for my purposes.

It fits my Panasonic DMC-FZ35 and protects that great Leica lens so I’m happy with it. I must confess that I was momentarily confused as I’d expected it to mount on the outer ring, but it fits on the lens itself. Just extend it and it fits like a charm. I personally feel quite relieved knowing that the lens won’t accidentally get dinged or scratched while I’m using the camera. I’m not intending to play catch with it, but why take the risk when you don’t need to.

I use this lens to shoot practically everything with my Canon 7D, especially sports. It keeps up with the action and the auto-focus and image stabilization are outstanding. The zoom is perfect for baseball, fastpitch softball and soccer. Given the features, quality performance and image quality for under $250, you will not be disappointed. An exceptional value.

Bought as new from Amazon, but received a defective one.

Right after open the box, I found:

There are eight dark dust spots sticking to inside glasses of the lens;

There is one scratch on the surface of glass in the rear end of the lens.

Immediately returned it.

Recently I received a couple of defective or used electronic items from Amazon for new items including the almighty Canon T2i.

I am wondering whether it is because of bad warehouse management, logistics or because I selected super saver shipping and got punished ?

I do not have experience with the faster (and more expensive) top-grade lenses, but this one does the job just right. For the price, this lens is great. I shoot mainly outdoors for photos I want to display on my walls or for family, so this lens is just right for my photography needs.

this lens is a great deal! i’m an amateur photographer, so on a budget. this has the range i need, has IS so I don’t have to lug around a tripod to use. it’s light weight and produces great, sharp photos. i noticed the dc motor is a bit loud, but it’s substantially less expensive than the usm model. i already know this will be one of my favorite lenses.

  4 Stars Too many batteries
  This camera is a great photographic equipment, however if you don’t buy rechargable batteries you will become a polluter,it uses too many batteries and useful life of regular batteries is short, therefore you will have to keep buying more batteries everytime…this is not a environmentally friendly camera. I should have been more careful at the moment of selecting this camera.

  I was looking for a camera that would produce clear detailed closeups and one that would zoom in for a distant picture also. I found both with this camera. I am well satisfied that the camera did as advertised and I have enjoyed taking closeups of my flower garden.

  My husband recently bought the Nikon CoolPix L110 for me from Amazon and I absolutely LOVE it! I have always had Nikons–over 25 years worth from a manual to an SLR to digital to this one!–and once again I can take pictures straight out of the box. It feels good in your hand, the controls are so easy and the photos are crystal clear. I have only had it for short while, so I have not tried out the video but I didn’t buy the camera for video capabilities so I may not ever use it! I have yet to read the book but I will so I can take some creative shots.
  
  I broke the LCD screen on my Nikon CoolPix L15 (don’t ever put them in your purse without a case!) so I initially thought I’d get another one like it until I saw the L110. The 15x zoom is absolutely wonderful, esp for taking wildlife shots, which is what I was lacking with the L15’s 3x zoom.
  
  I wanted a Nikon L-series camera because it uses regular AA batteries (comes with 4 Energizer Lithiums!) which you can find anywhere, esp on vacation.
  
  The camera strap and lens cap strap that come with it are great–the lens cap strap is threaded with the camera strap so you cannot lose it, which is very nice, yet it is out of the way.
  
  I’ve taken quite a few macro shots both on the “upclose” setting and on the standard “portrait” setting and both work beautifully.
  
  The absolute ONLY thing I’d change on the camera is to color in that glowing orange dot for the record button–it makes you think the camera is “on”.
  
  So far I haven’t had any blurry pictures issues like some of the reviews here….

  4 Stars Great Camera for an “Average” User
  I am not an SLR guy. But this Camera is great for the “Above Average” Users. This is far better than a point and shoot camera. The 15X zoom works great and 12.1 MP captures very minute details even at highest zoom. I have tried taking the pictures in all types of lights and it works well. I am very happy with this camera. An easy to use camera with 15X zoom, 12.1 MP resolution and less than $250… What else can I ask ???

  However at full zoom, I have to take the pictures very carefully. Even a little bit of shake of hands at full zoom spoils the pictures.
  
  Also the picture turns a little grainy at full zoom. Not so bad though.
  
  However I must admit that the “Automatic Mode” captures the best pictures in all lights and all modes. I hardly need to use the manual settings. “Automatic Mode” does it for me most of the time.

No problems so far. We are happy with the fine quality of the photos. We wish HD video would have been available, but the SD video works well. We will await news of the successor to this fine camera. We downloaded the “chimpanzee theme” of camera sounds for use in our camera from the Canon website. That entertains us.

Great camera. I had previously owned a G9 and loved it. The camera finally broke and the repair estimate was so high I felt it was better just to buy a new one. Too bad as I loved the camera. This is a nice update on the camera.

4 Stars I had a G3 and this one is true to the G line by Canon
I owned a G2 and G3 after which I moved bought several Canon DSLR cameras the 20D ,40D and the 5d Mark II. I still have the 40D and 5D Mark II but I found one thing missing and that was the articulated LCD. In order to take those photos that my age would not allow but I did not want to reduce my Pro functions and quality. The fact that this camera also shoots in RAW is a great pro factor also. The G11 makes for a perfect set now and it fits a very unique and important nitche in my out door photography. I would have given it 5 stars if had a wired or IR remote for steadyness to get the crisp focus shots. I find that a small tripod goes along well in my pack and serves as the next best answer to that problem.

3 Stars Hard to hold, easy to drop
Maybe my old hands get drier than those of Canon’s designers, but I found this camera slippery and difficult to hold. Even the non-slip wrap on the front is too subtle to provide a good grip.

In addition to the body’s slipperiness overall, the camera is HEAVY and bulky. I found it difficult to figure out how to hold this thing. Be sure to hold one of these before you buy it; maybe your hands will fit it better.

I could hardly find a way to shoot with one hand, which is what I need to do. The camera is difficult to hold to your side and walk with it with fingers down. I found no way to wrap my hand around it to hold it securely while carrying it at my side (as I am used to carrying other cameras, ready to raise and shoot). The strap didn’t help.

For many people, this will be a 2-handed camera, which takes something away from its flexibility.

I really wanted to like this camera, but I gave it three weeks and my hands never stopped feeling awkward and easily tired when using it. It just was not a fit for me.

I didn’t get around to trying to tweak the image quality — but it came out untweaked seeming over-processed and over-intense. I imagine this could be adjusted.

What’s especially good: The flip-out screen, manual controls including the dial to adjust exposure, the quick responsiveness.
