5 Stars Nifty fifty
Best low-light lens for the money! I was leery of buying this lens because of its price. I mean come on, a SLR lens for $100? After friends recommended it I purchased it and haven’t regretted it for a moment. The autofocus is a litle slow but that’s the only downfall. Works flawlessly and even though the exterior is plastic, it’s a tank!

5 Stars Great Product
I love it, pictures come out really sharp and very nice color. I recommend to everybody, specially it is cheap.

5 Stars if you’ve been using the stock lens and a zoom, give this a try!
Once you get used to the fixed length and stop trying to zoom it, you will LOVE this lens. The clarity, the sharpness, the capture oh its all astounding. I feel like my old pictures must look muddy in comparison.

I’ve been addicted to shooting with my zoom and a flash. Very good pics (I take a lot of pics of children in motion and thus I need the flash to compensate for the tight shutter speed and aperture) but nearly always require some post-shoot tweaking. Not with this lens. Holy moly it gives beautiful shots! in low light! with realistic DoF!

I can’t crow enough about this lens. I only wish they made it with metal housing. Plastic is lighter but I’m terrified to drop it.

4 Stars Four stars with a warning
This is a performance-versus-price purchase. Bottom line: Debate no longer — DSLR newbies who have budget constraints but who want no-flash, low-light (e.g., indoor) shots and easy shallow depth-of-field, should buy this lens.

Photozone.de rated this lens (5-point scale):

optical quality 3.5, mechanical quality 2, price/performance 5.

[...]

The warning: because of the Digital Rebel’s cropped sensor, this lens is not wide-angle; it’s more like a portrait lens. You’ll have to take a few steps back to capture, for example, your child in his/her environs. But you’ll get some really nice portraits.

If the issue of crop factor is going to bother you a lot, then consider, instead, the Canon EF 35mm f/2 Wide Angle Lens for Canon SLR Cameras. With a maximum aperture of f/2, it will help you take “no-flash, low-light” while affording you a wider angle. It costs more, but it may be more of what you’re looking for.

5 Stars Great Buy!
First, this is not a L series telephoto lens, but it is a fantastic prime lens for about $100!!! The construction is not real sturdy, and has a lot of plastic but for the money it is insanely great. Pictures are CRYSTAL clear and sharp. This is a great way to learn the lower f/ stops which is what I totally expected. The f/1.8 is more than enough to give you a ton of experience on what to be watching for. I missed focus on some secondary items in the picture due to setting the f/ stop too low, but that is my point, we need to learn by using a low f/ stop lens and this is a great way to learn. I also found that I will be looking much harder at prime lenses instead of zooms in the future. Without all of the compromises that zooms require, primes can get incredible sharpness! I have a lot of money in lenses, but this is the best bargain in my kit. And Amazon gave its usual great service on this purchase.

5 Stars Good deal
I bought this camera because of the size. My camera that I have been using for several years is much larger and not convenient to carry to the beach. This camera is very small and easy to carry and has all the features of my larger one. I am very pleased with the performance so far.

5 Stars Got what i expected!
This is the 4th Canon Powershot I have owned and I love this one the best. The camera has a great feature that autofocuses and takes quick photos–something I find really important with moving targets like children. Kids move and change expressions very quickly so the continuous autofocus button (which some could find annoying)I find does the trick! And its ability to remove red eye is better than the older versions I have owned. The only thing I am hoping is that the lens error message and lens getting stuck doesnt happen with this one. But because I already knew the features and have the charger it was a good investment. And the orange color makes it unique and easy to keep track of in a room full of cameras.

5 Stars Our Canon camera purchased via Amazon
As long-time Amazon customers,we are accustomed to receiving our orders quickly, but in this case, there was an unusually long delay, especially considering the fact that it was advertised as being “in stock”.

Also, we had expected to receive a memory card with it, however we evidently failed to follow Amazon’s ordering procedure properly, so perhaps it was a case of not following the rules “fine-print?

On the plus side, the camera is a remarkable product, and contrary to various negative customer reviews, ours functions perfectly, and we are pleased with it.

Thank you,

Bill and Joan Hannan

3 Stars Great Point & Shoot with Issues
I bought this when my Sony Cybershot died. After weeks of researching, I decided on this camera. It seemed you can’t beat it for the price. I’m an amateur photographer and my main camera is a Canon Rebel Xti DSLR. I wanted a camera to put in my pocket when I don’t feel like lugging around my DSLR. Here’s the good and the bad of this camera, I’ve had for a few months now…

Pros:

-Great, amazing, crisp Macro shots! This camera rivals my DSLR for Macro quality, beads of water on plants, flowers, food, etc. anything close up and this camera shines.

-Outdoors this camera takes great landscape photos. Even at night, given you use a tripod this camera has great infinity detail.

-Compact and slim enough to fit in jeans pocket.

-Battery life, as with all Canons, is amazing. I’ll use it for almost a week straight without needing a charge.

-LCD is great, very vibrant, too vibrant I think, pics aren’t as contrasted as it makes them look, but great nonetheless.

Cons:

-Flash is really harsh! So bad to where it’s almost unusable indoors at night. My last camera had an option to adjust the flast either + or – one setting to adjust it’s strenghth and I almost always left in on the minus (-) setting. If this camera had that, I’d give it 4 stars. It’s so harsh that I’m considering a Gary Fong diffuser for it and permanently attaching it to it. It just blows out subjects, especially in Macro, forget about it.

-Zoom is glitchy. The zoom constantly isn’t smooth. It’ll catch as I zoom in or out periodically and stall as I hold down the zoom switch.

-It’s very slippery. This camera has a very smooth finish and makes it easy to slip out of your hands. There’s nothing to grip ontom it’s all one smooth surface.

Conclusion: This is a great camera for outdoors and macro shots, but indoors suffers, as most point and shoot cameras do, with a harsh flash. I’d look for a camera with an adjustable flash level because all digital camera’s flashes by default are too bright and harsh for indoors. For $150 though, you can’t ask for too much from this little camera…

4 Stars Perfect for a Basic Point & shoot camera
I love this camera…This is my first time to buy a canon product. And I’m loving it.. THough I am still learning how to use the special features of the camera for a certain occassion..I love the portability..But there’s some negative about this camera.I got 2 kids thats always on the move & I want to take their pictures when they’re having fun playing w/o noticing me taking those shots, even if I use the kids & pet mode but w/o flash, the pictures were blurry, really blurry…So I have to use the flash even we’re in indoor location..Most of the times I used flash because pictures were blurry unless you used a tripod..On the other hand, the MACRO mode is great. I love that the background is blurry but the main subject is very clear & crisp..Moreover, the video is really really great.. No unneccessary noise in the background, video is in HD. Love it..

All in all, this camera is perfect for just point & shoot, an all day handy, ready to go everyday camera…Don’t keep turning it on just to look at the pictures on the screen, it will drain the battery fast. And makes the camera hot..And I am still in the process of exploring how to use this caera efficiently & how to take great great great pictures of my kids..
