Nikon has gone and done it again at making a fine piece of equipment that’s not only easy to use but also has some of the finest Nikor imaging lenses and durable Life span would completely reccommend this camera

5 Stars A Great First Step
I received this as a gift a few days ago, and I AM IN LOVE! For someone as clueless about the nuances of digital photography, but still wants to take great pictures, this seems to be the perfect step away from the point & shoot.

Coming out of the box, it’s intimidating as all get-out. But I love how Nikon has added almost a mini-course book in digital photography to the kit (you can read about what comes in the box above, but for some reason I also got this great little book that explains aperture, f-stop, shutter speed, and all the rest of that as well as some exercises to help you explore your camera. My husband bought the camera at a local big-box store instead of Amazon, though, if that made the difference) as well as a quick-start guide and the more detailed manual to walk you through. So here I am, just a few days into being a DSLR owner, and already using the manual settings as much as the preprogrammed ones. And the shots, they are beautiful!

And another great feature about this camera is the ability to tweak the pictures while still in your camera. To play with the colors, trim, eliminate red eye, play with tones (sepia, b&w, cyan). My favorite is the warm effect, which subtly replaces some of the yellows in backgrounds/skin tones with more reds, which plays some amazing things on your pictures.

I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship with photography!

5 Stars Great Buy for It’s Class!
After wanting, for the longest time, to own a DSLR, I finally bought the Nikon D3000. All the modes and features given in the D3000 are easily accessed and understandable. It took me awhile to figure out how to use the manual mode, but once I did it was amazing! As many have already heard, the Nikon D3000 is probably the best beginning DSLR anybody can get. It gives you professional quality photographs (sharp images) for a much cheaper price tag. I have come to love my Nikon D3000. I will definitely continue to tote it around with me everywhere until I decide to level up. I recommend this to everybody!

5 Stars Better than the Rebel
I have 2 close friends with Canon Rebels and I can confidently say this Nikon is noticable better!! In particular it takes better low-light photos and doesn’t seem to be as ‘confused’ as the Canon is on AUTO in low-light. If you value photographs and rely on a compact of any make, please go buy a DSLR. Even if it is a Canon, the picture quality is leaps ahead of a compact.

Back to the Nikon … it takes great photos, easy to use, small relatively speaking, good battery life.

Not that great: funny operation on the rapid FPS attempts, takes a while to take advantage of the focal points offered.

    Thanks,

    Shark.

4 Stars Give it some good use (A review for beginners)
Before getting into the pros & cons, lets begin with some brief info on entry level DSLRs. DSLRs allow more customization than point-&-shoot compact digital cameras, especially because of different factors like larger sensors & different lenses. For quick snapshots of your friends and family at a bbq, going out, or on holiday: point-&-shoot is perfect. Those looking to go beyond and make artistic photos, or capture great sights around the world: DSLR brings refinement (though point-&-shoots still VERY capable). I have to be honest, my Canon compact digital cam is hard to beat (great manual mode too), so I was weary of getting into just an entry level DSLR. Many people don’t realize the capabilities of DSLRs is in your hands, and you have to learn/work with it. If you pick up a DSLR just to use auto mode + built in flash 60% or more of the time, you’re wasting your time/money.

The Nikon D3000 is an entry level DSLR, usually packed with a pretty general 18-55mm kit lens (which still works great!), it doesn’t offer as many options as higher end models, nor does it have as refined of a sensor. This means it does not have the cleaner/higher ISO capabilities as high end models, nor does it process photos as quickly, & control/customization is a little limited (for refined studio/experimental/artistic photography).

    D3000 Pros:

    -Excellent photo quality

    -Fast continuous shooting

    -11 Point AF (auto-focus) multi-point system

-Easy, light body to hold compared to other models

-Different modes + TONS of customization features for each option

-In camera photo editing is awesome

-VR lens reduces vibration, excellent sharp images

-the built in flash is good (upgrade depending on your needs)

-Format of menus + buttons gives a fun learning curve to work with

    D3000 Cons:

-High ISO = noisy grain images*

-Auto white balance has a slight yellow tint (**I have a fix for that)

-No live view (which is ok for me)

-No movie recording (also not a problem for me)

*that noisy grain can contribute to better results in some black & white or grittier photos

    **white balance>fluorescent>white fluorescent>B2 M1 & +0.3EXP is a pretty good fix in some rooms

Live view may or may not be a feature people want. Because it’s omitted on this model, you have to use the viewfinder. I actually enjoy the experience of using the viewfinder, though I can see the benefits to having live view on the LCD screen. If you pass on this or any entry level DSLR because of lack of movie recording capabilities, you’re probably in the wrong market. However, if there’s room in your budget to get the D5000, it has movie recording, though it is not a priority in photography (sure is convenient though!). The auto white balance in any camera (without use of a flash) is quite challenging in fluorescent lighting, but customizations have allowed me to combat that. Low light + high ISO can come out pretty ugly in some situations, even with noise reduction turned on. I’d recommend working on lighting and lens variation for that.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons on this camera. It has been very fun learning about the features and options, which leads to more fun learning/refining various techniques in photography. I’ve done some great portrait, landscape, and experimental photography with it so far, and I’m very pleased. In the past 5 years, I’ve taken Canon and Sony compact cams on my travels around the globe, and they worked great. Some years ago, I did some 35mm photography, so in addition to my travels I felt ready to upgrade to a DSLR. The price of this camera is awesome for the quality you get. I’m still shocked at how pleased I am and I can’t wait to take it on my trips with me around the world this summer and fall. I highly recommend this camera as an entry level DSLR. However, if you have budget constraints, the D40 & D60 are nearly the same (used models are cheaper). Even a used Canon Digital Rebel will be great. My advice is to go with either Nikon or Canon and stick with that brand so that when you upgrade your camera body, you can use the same lenses. Ignore megapixel count unless you plan to make super large prints, a good camera is a good camera – do some research, learn it, and shoot! For those who have a little cash to spend, and want the movie recording, get the D5000. To be honest, if you’re a beginner or amateur photographer, any of these models will serve you well. As for me, I’m very happy with the D3000 and plan to keep it for a long time.

    5 Stars EXCELLENT!!!
Slim, light weight, large screen, well packed and shipped with just a little delay. EXCELLENT product! Thanks!

    5 Stars Worth Considering
This camera surprised me. First of all, my personal cameras are big Nikons, so my ego tells me that this little camera is a toy and isn’t going to come close. I do have a point and shoot – a Canon G10, which is still a big, full featured camera with a lot of bells and whistles. I picked this out for a friend who absolutely didn’t want a larger camera (not enough purse room). I honestly expected to be disappointed.

And I was delighted instead. I opened the box and charged the battery and promptly discovered that there was no thick manual but a thin ‘getting started’ pamphlet. OK, thought I, I’ll play along, This was intended to be a camera for a non-reader of manuals so let’s pretend… I put the battery and a memory card in the camera, followed the pamphlet and bang (or rather, ‘click’) I had a great picture of my cat. Undaunted I headed outside and started aiming it at trees and scenery. And it did a great job every time. Loaded the pictures into photoshop and was suitably impressed with the image quality. And not once did I take the camera of Auto.

I eventually discovered the manual buried away on the accompanying CD and discovered that just under the covers was a very sophisticated machine. Plenty of options should my friend ever decide to go beyond point and shoot. Since the camera has image stabilization and is smart about shifting into macro I’m not sure that that ever will be necessary. But if she wants to shoot fireworks, theres a setting for that (and a whole bunch of other things).

Probably the most important feature of the camera is that it uses a touch screen rather than a lot of knobs and buttons. This will take a bit of getting used to, but once you learn how (and where) to tap on the screen you will find that most features are very easy to use. And the screen is quite large. One warning though – there’s no viewfinder, and big screens can be hard to read in direct sunlight. So there are times when you will have to point, squint, and shoot. Another thing to keep in mind with a large view screen is that, scratch resistant or not, if you drop it in your purse with a bunch of keys you will eventually scratch it. Get a small case of some sort (there are countless options).

This is a very good buy if the price is within your budget. Truth is, I’m not in any hurry to present it to my friend.

    5 Stars Superb
It’s about the right size for a handy camera…not bulky!

The touch feature is very convenient and easy to use.

5 Stars Great camera for the value
I purchased this camera recently from Amazon. When I bought it I paid roughly U$ 270, which was a very good price when the same camera was advertised by other vendors at over U$ 300. For the money I paid, this camera is awsome. I am personally not too fond of touchscreens (I am more into the “analog” and “buttons” designs.. call me old fashioned), but this camera blew my mind. The touch screen is so intuitive you can get to every corner of the menu in seconds. It has nice futures as touching an area of the picture to select where to focus. Other things it has are creative effects, like selecting one particular color and leaving the rest of the image in black and white: this creates very nice artistic images whan you want a particular item to stand out in the picture. You can even select any color in the image and swap (in real time) for another… I tried taking a shot at the swimming pool, which locked pale and white, and swapped for an aquamarine turquoise which really enhanced the picture without making it cheesy or fake-looking… It’s like working with Photoshop in real time.. The camera is really small and practical. As I had read in other reviews, the batery/SD lid is quite flimsy, built of a thin plastic which doesen’t look very promising. The lids on the HDMI and USB connections also look like they’ll break before the camera’s first birthday. However, this is not a tough-built, rugged camera to take under the rain or on the trail, so provided you serve its intended use (parties, home, theatre, and anywhere where you’d take reasonable good care of a high quality optic instrument!), you should be fine. It doesen’t require silk gloves… just don’t fumble with the lids too often. The quality of the pictures is good but not outstanding, at least in auto modes indoors (I have an Olympus 570UZ which I think handles white balance more nicely). The HDMI is superb, and the real plus is the 24mm equivalent widescreen, which is great for indoor group pictures where little space would usually require everyone to huddle up so as to fit in the picture.. I would purchase this again.

5 Stars I am loving this camera
This is the third Canon PowerShot digital camera, which I have owned. Each has worked perfectly and the only reason I keep buying new models is that new features are introduced, which compel me to purchase the next generation…. good marketing, Canon!

What I love about this model: the tap-screen back, which enables one to quickly identify what part of the scene is to be tightly focused. And the 24 mm wide-angle lens (speaking in terms reserved for 35 mm cameras) is SENSATIONAL. It enables me to get much richer, more interesting shots than my previous PowerShot SD950 IS digital camera.

While the digital sensor in this point-and-shoot camera is no where near as large as the sensor in my CanonDigital Rebel T1i SLR, and cannot match the impeccable imaging of the larger camera, the PowerShot provides a stunning back-up camera — I am never without it. In Washington DC, last month, I was walking by the US Capital at 10 pm and had only my PowerShot SD3500 IS with me. I caught the gorgeous, lit dome and its mirror image in the reflecting pool in a shot that deserves to grace postcards or calendars. Love my PowerShot!

    1 Star Great Cam

Basically its a good camera. ordered on 12th Apr, but still didn’t recieve it (3-May).

Electronic-expo is the seller and they doesnt have the stock, they put it on back order.

People who looking for immediate order, don’t order here.

5 Stars Like a pro camera!

    1 Star Poor Customer Service
Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens and 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD

We bought this camera with high expectations and after the first day of using it (only really took about 40 pictures) we downloaded the pictures into our computer. The next day, I went to turn on the camera and it would not turn on. We tried everything and finally called Nikon. A quick over the phone analysis by the customer service rep was done and he simply said to mail it back to them. No apologies, little explanation and nothing set up to cover shipping charges. I called back to talk to a second rep and again was told that the shipping costs were on me!

I spent over $10.00 to ship it back and a week later they are “waiting for parts” to complete the repair. Keep in mind that this is a brand new camera that we spent a lot of money on. Maybe Nikon is not what it used to be.

    5 Stars great Nikon!
we bought this camera off Amazon.com and we asolutely love it. This is our first DSLR camera, so we are not experts, but this camera make you feel like an expert. It’s so easy to use that we were taking professional quality photos in no time. It takes some getting use to if you are stepping up from a point-n-shoot camera due to the size, options, and lens. We started out with only using the Auto setting, but after reading the manual a few times we moved on to use some of the other fabulous settings, options, and even going into manuual mode to take the perfect picture. This camera is for the amateur and the pro. I would recommend this camere to anyone who could afford it.

    5 Stars A Great Buy
I bought the Nikon D5000 SLR camera with the understanding that it was the best SLR on the market in the amateur professional category. While it lacks some of the features of the more expensive D90 it certainly is an upgrade from the D60 I had been previously using. It is a solid basic SLR camera with video technology and a reversible screen for those hard to picture shots that is easy to learn the basics of and yet complex enough to grow along with the user. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in purchasing an SLR camera.

    Tiffen 52mm UV Protection Filter

    41MSRcS3sCL. SL75 Tiffen 52mm UV Protection Filter

Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. It is important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and that of air-borne particles, such as smog. The latter is made up of opaque matter that absorbs visible light as well as UV, and will not be appreciably removed by a UV filter. The UV Protector shields lens from dust, moisture, scratches, and breakage.

5 Stars It is a good filter
I will begin by saying I am not a professional photographer.

I bought this to protect my Canon 18-135mm 3.5-5.6f lens. It arrived in fine condition, and was very easy to attach.

I have noticed no abnormalities in image quality, and it’s perfectly fine (and cheap enough) for my purposes.

5 Stars A purchase absolutely necessary
It filter improve a little the image quality, furthermore it works like a shield anti scratches or any lens damage.

    You must have one.

    5 Stars Works For Me
It fits my Panasonic DMC-FZ35 and protects that great Leica lens so I’m happy with it. I must confess that I was momentarily confused as I’d expected it to mount on the outer ring, but it fits on the lens itself. Just extend it and it fits like a charm. I personally feel quite relieved knowing that the lens won’t accidentally get dinged or scratched while I’m using the camera. I’m not intending to play catch with it, but why take the risk when you don’t need to.

5 Stars Tiffen 58mm UV Protection Filter
    Received quickly. Good vendor.

    Good quality product.

I always use a protective lense on my lenses. That is why I still have and are using lenses I purchesed in 1974, and they are like new.

3 Stars Portable Guy’s return policy
Can anybody tell me Portable Guy’s return policy or how to contact them? I get nothing but a circular set of instructions that bounce me back and forth between PG and Amazon and a message “Portable Guy has not specified their refund and returns policy” –I am at thomach3@yahoo.com

Happy with this item. Will never again buy ink from the store. I saved so much money!!! The only problem, and maybe it was just a one time thing, when printing in color there were visible lines on the finished paper.

Other than that, I have nothing but great things to say about this product. Price was awesome!!!!!

    1 Star DON’T BUY FROM THIS SELLER…
DON’T BUY FROM THIS SELLER…Seller listed items with photos and text Epson Originals refurbished, using UltraBrite inks. Contacted seller why order is 1-week late shipping, when already emailed Tracking Number, said order canceled because I gave him 1-star rating for last order, 25-percent ink full and only makes lines. Poorest Quality product I have ever used. So this means, if you don’t give sellers 5-star ratings, you can’t buy from them anymore? I reported him to Epson USA which said he cannot legally use their images, text and specifications – selling Generics. Also reported to Amazon POOR business Code of Ethics. I think Epson USA will be contacting seller and Amazon about falsely soliciting business….
