What digital slr camera is best for amateur photographers?

I really want a digital slr camera, but I don’t want to spend a fortune, I’ve been looking at used ones, and refurbished but they’re all so expensive! I’ve been manly looking at getting a canon EOS rebel xs. Is that a decent camera? I currently have a canon regular digital camera and I love it.

5 Stars Protect Digital Camera while keeping it with you
The Olympus Neoprene Soft Digital Camera Case Cushions the camera while in my pocket or purse without being bulky. It fits easily into a pant or jacket pocket. The camera is always with me being kept safe from scratches and dirt.

3 Stars Nice, quality case… not much room for storage.
This case fits the Olympus Tough camera “like a glove” but does not allow for much storage of extra batteries or cords. Probably would be best as an “on-the-go” case for when on a trip or assignment. Most likely needs a larger carrying case with more storage for everyday use.

although it was a bit too big for my camera, I liked the quality of the material, and comfortability.

This case is a good fit and a convenient size for carrying. The smaller front pocket is perfect for carrying an extra battery or memory card.

The soft case is exactly what I was hoping for! material is soft weight yet feels protective, hugs the camera perfectly and the velcro securely holds it in. There is a perfect sized pocket that can hold an extra memory card. It will do just the trick for an upcoming trip.
