5 Stars Canon Camera
This camera is an amazing value for the money. Takes great pictures, easy to use, long battery life and easy to charge. Only caution is that the camera does not come with a memory card.

2 Stars Great camera, horrible company
This is a really great camera, but it is a really bad company. Canon is the worst company when it comes to getting anything repaired. When I got this camera, I noticed it had a dead pixel on the LCD. I sent it in to Canon, they sent it back not only with the dead pixel unrepaired, but they left dust between the protective screen film cover and the LCD. As a result I sent it to them a second time. When I got it back the second time, they did not fix either problem and they broke something inside the camera so a red spot kept appearing on the LCD when trying to take a picture or shoot video… I sent it in a third last week telling them to fix the problems they caused and to replace the LCD.

It returned today, they fixed the two problems they caused, but I still have the dead pixel.

The bottom line is Canon is a horrible company when it comes to repair service, if you get a defective LCD like I did, you are going to have to deal with it, because they will lie to you about trying to repair and do nothing.

Either Canon lacks integrity or their repair people are incompetent or both (probably both) and thus I have to poorly review their product, because if something else goes defective, I have no guaranteed they will be able to fix it.

5 Stars Best camera to date!
In September of 09 I purchased this camera for my son, from Amazon.com, for $225.20, with an extra battery, and free shipping & handling. I knew it was a good buy, so I ordered one for myself. I still use my older Canon cameras but this one has a sharper image and if you take snaps while driving…they couldn’t be any sharper. Note: the size is just a little slimmer than older models. My orders were for the Gold…what a buy. Thank you Amazon!

4 Stars Good pocket camera with viewfinder
I purchased this model because it was the only pocket camera I could find with an optical viewfinder. It has surpassed my expectations. See the two attached pictures. I wish the film strips could be generated in AVI files, but I can live with the MOV filetype.

5 Stars Great little camera
I had a 6 year old camera (also Canon) that I recently gave to my dad who seemed interested in taking digital pictures and I started looking for a new digital camera.

SD780IS was recommended highly and the selling point for me was the availability of a view finder as it is very hard to see what you are aiming at in bright daylight without a viewfinder.

I already have countless pictures in different environments from hot hazy days on the sea to some flowers I have that bloom only once a year (and only for a day) in all occasions the results turned out great. Clarity, picture quality it is all there.

The size of the camera is perfect, I have a red one I love its color and using it (charging the battery or downloading the pics) is so easy.

I must mention that for this price it is the best deal.

5 Stars Fantastic Camera for all Users
A wonderful camera, despite the user’s skill level.

Because of the size and weight, the portability isn’t exactly optimized, but it’s far better than carrying around a full size professional SLR.

Pictures are of amazing quality- don’t bother spending an extra $50-$75 for two more mega pixels! The zoom is wonderful- it’s a great camera. I’m very happy with it, and recently bought it to take it with me to a 5 week study abroad trip in London. It never let me down!

Another great feature is that the camera has a setting where the front display tells you how many pictures it has left on the memory card based on what setting you’re using.

IMAGE STABILIZATION is a life saver- especially for a traveller- and nearly guarantees a great picture every time. Easy to use camera- you turn it on and within seconds you know how to use it.

3 Stars Very pleased with picture quality – until it broke!
This camera produced some beautiful pictures for me…but then it broke after less than two weeks of heavy use. So it gets three stars.

Despite it’s early demise, this camera and I took about 600 pictures at different settings and got to know each other quite well.

Dislikes:

- Bulky and heavy. There is no way to comfortable carry this camera around and still have it readily available, unless you hang a case around your neck or on you belt. Compared to other digital cameras, this puppy is huge!

- No decent dynamic range compensation. If you’re background is very bright, don’t try to take pictures of dark subjects. Also, I found it impossible to take good pictures of people wearing baseball-style hats in bright sunlight, because the camera either the face was too shadowed to recognize or the highlights were completely blown out.

- In program mode, the camera always defaults back to the ‘center averaged’ exposure control setting, which sucked when taking high-contrast photos. Using ‘spot metering’ was the only way I could get acceptable shots of people and bright backgrounds.

- No zoom during video. I’ve owned other a-series before, and this has always been an annoyance. I was able to take some good video of a helicopter as it landed, but it took about six tries. Also, camera shake is pretty bad during the video without having some kind of object to stabalize your hand on.

- No wide angle lens. Really missed this during group shots.

- Durability. After less than a month of ownership, the camera simply froze. I couldn’t get the screen to turn on or the lens to retract. This is the second time a canon has done this to me, and the last time I will be buying one for the foreseeable future. To be fair, it did experience some hot and dusty conditions, but my Panasonic has been through similar conditions and three years later still works just fine.

Likes:

- At its best, this camera took pictures to rival a DSLR. Seriously, I took pictures alongside another person with a Canon Rebel, and our pictures came out very similar. We even switched cameras for a bit and the only real improvement I noticed was the almost instantaneous focusing speed of the rebel. Reviewing the images, I also noticed that the rebel produced a very nice background blur for portrait shots, while the background remained sharp for the A120IS. But at a $800 price difference, I was very happy with my camera. Also, its smaller size meant that I caught more spontaneous shots than her because I could carry my camera with me everywhere.

- AA batteries. I spent two weeks with no electricity and never had to worry. This camera ate a set of batteries every day and a half, but I brought about a million AA’s so it wasn’t a problem. It also accounts for most of the bulk of the camera, but it was worth it to be able to take as many pictures as I wanted.

- Fast. From sitting in my helmet on the ground, to taking a very nice picture of a fire truck speeding by was just a few seconds. I never missed a shot because the camera wasn’t fast enough.

- Long zoom. With the lens fully extended, this camera picked up on slightly more details than I could see with my naked eye. There was also no distortion at all.

- Decent low-light photography. This camera had a hard time with multiple fast-moving subjects under florescent lights, but that is very forgivable. Otherwise, it performed relatively well in dim lighting conditions.

Overall, I was very happy with this camera. For a very low price, it took some gorgeous pictures. It’s definitely fighting above it’s weight class. Yes, you make some trade offs, but if you’re looking for something cheap, AA battery powered that still takes good pictures, I would highly recommend this camera to you.

I would say this camera’s ideal use is as a back-up camera or as a vacation camera. Just don’t expect it to last.

5 Stars I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!
I just received this yesterday. Was out yesterday and today testing it out. Replaced it with an old canon s400 which was great so I figured Canon was the way to go. The Zoom works great and the pictures in high resolution are lifelike. Can’t comment on battery life yet but I have taken a couple hundred pictures at least on the original batteries that came with camera. Went and bought the Sanyo Eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries w/ Charger from amazon since battery life seemed to be lacking from previous reviews. All I can really say is this is the best camera I have ever used and I thank God that I was born at a time of such great technological advances.

3 Stars Doesn’t replace Powershot S2 IS
I purchased this PowerShoot SX120IS to replace my Powershot S2 IS, which functioned very well for me but started using batteries at a prodigious rate. The “upgrade” was less than satisfactory.

1) Shape & size: The shape and smaller size of the SX120 do not allow me to get a firm and comfortable grasp of the camera with my left hand.

2) Weight: I prefer the additional weight of the S2, suspecting that I had less camera shake.

3) Viewfinder: I have never had a camera until now without a viewfinder. I thought I could adjust to its lack in the SX120, but this is like waking up in the morning with my right arm missing. Well, perhaps a touch of hyperbole.

4) LCD monitor. The larger LCD monitor on the SX120 is fun, and makes messages easy to read. The monitor on the S2, however, could swing out and swivel up or down, making it ideal for shots in a crowd with the camera above the head or a horizontal shot in the wetlands at ground level.

5) Neck strap: The S2 had two eyelets for a neckstrap, which was ideal for the way I used the camera–hands free until I needed the camera, but the camara immediately accessible. The SX120 has only one eyelet for a small hand strap, requiring one hand to hold the camera, or requiring the camera to be tucked into a case.

6) User manual: I referred to the substantial user manual for the S2 often enough that I packed it in the camera case. The user manual for the SX120 is only online.

The functions for the two cameras are similar but not identical, and the ways of accessing them are sufficiently alike that the transition from the S2 to the SX120 was smooth. The Easy mode of the SX120 is a handy way for another family member to use the camera without giving detailed instructions.

I’ll get along with this camera, but for things that are important to me, this is a downgrade. I wish that I had researched this purchase more thoroughly.

5 Stars Fun little pocket shooter
Tons of fun. Surprising quality in such a tiny package. It takes some serious focus to hold it steady because it is so light and tiny but if it were heavy and huge it would not fit in my pocket. I love that I can plug it directly into my computer with its built in USB. The audio quality is pretty good too. The biggest hassle is buying a memory card but my brother found one on a Christmas sale for me so I didn’t have to deal with it.

I have taken it hiking, on trampolines, to family reunions, and it has attracted all sorts of attention when people figure out it is not a cell phone. The only peeve I have with the camera is that the lens isn’t very wide so you have to take a step back to get your friends into focus. The playsport (zi8′s waterproof little brother) has a much more reasonable lens and is waterproof. You need an external cable to upload with that one which I don’t always have on me.

1 Star needs work…
If you listen to the PR you know the good stuff about full HD that works nice in the Kodak lab. Now here’s the rest…

I’m not a pro. I’m just a dumb guy that wants the Kodak Zi8 camera to work right in the real world. Here’s my experience…

First, the sound sucks. I first used this Kodak Zi8 on the America’s Cup sailboat Stars & Stripes. A once in a lifetime event for me. Couldn’t hear my girlfriend talk or anyone else–just the hammering noise of the wind with the built-in mic. Not good. A major disappointment. Tried the smaller Sony exterior mic with the noise protection covers but they didn’t work. Lots of buzzzzz-ing sounds and wind noise. Plus they kept falling out. Didn’t fit right. Etc.

Note: If I get a good mic that might actually work–it’s bigger than the camera! What’s the point of going small!

IMPORTANT: You can’t see the screen outside in the real world. It’s shinny black in the sunlight. So you can’t frame the image or see the controls or see the camera turn off because the battery just died. No alarms.

Plus the view is narrow, very very narrow. A wider angle could give you a chance to catch some of the action by pointing. But no such luck with this Kodak.

Also, the Zoom is way toooo fast.

Also, the battery last maybe an hour, and you can’t replace the battery with a tripod on. You must take the tripod off before you can open the camera. Try doing this on one of the fastest sailboats in the world with the crew cranking wenches like madmen and the boom swinging an inch over your head. I’m just lucky I didn’t get a swim in the Pacific.

Also, try to hold this Kodak or Flip camera steady. It’s a joke. Can’t be done without a bulky system.

The idea of a small high quality video camera is great!–but the reality is not so hot. I feel cheated. Last time I purchase a Kodak.

Do you think Kodak could develop a better mic?

Sure they can.

Do you think Kodak can develop a quick change battery system?

That’s an easy one. Just redesign smart, be thoughtful. Use the camera in the real world.

Do you think Kodak can develop a better screen?

Yeap. Sony and the other Japanese camera companies have them.

Do you think Kodak can add a better selection of lenses?

Uh-huh. They know all about that stuff.

Do you think Kodak can come up with a reasonable steady-cam system?

You bet.

Do you think they can make the best little video camera in the world?

Why not? They have a impressive history in still and motion picture film.

Then thy don’t they and dominate the market… ?

Good question.

5 Stars Awesome with a BIG A!!!!!
I soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo love this new toy in my life! It is so easy, so fun and so practical for what I use it for! (ball games, day trips, craziness in my house with an 8yr old boy! LOL!) I just love it! The picture quality is TERRIFFIC too…. I have ZERO complaints! I researched this little bugger and I did see some not so glowing remarks and at first thought “oh oh…what did I get myself into”…..but no worries whatsoever! Installation is a snap, the camera is virtually idiot proof and for a computer loser like me…I am not very savvy saddly, it was a DREAM! I love this little gizmo and cannot say enough good about it! I am totally planning to add an additional mic to it and extra rechargeable batteries because with summer right on my heels I KNOW I’ll be using this alot more!

1 Star pos (piece of you know what)
This camera comes with nothing worthwhile….You have to buy memory separately…It comes with about 30 seconds of memory…ad does not memtion that..It records in 30 second bits..No provision for an extended run…

What a waste of money..jb

2 Stars Not quite as good as the Flip
After reading reviews on how this was a better camera than the Flip, I purchased one to try out. I have several Flip Minos, a Zoom and this, that I use to create YouTube videos. The video quality is ok but I think the Flip is still a better camera. I’ve been using the Flips for 1 1/2 years for school projects and yes, I wish the mic were better but I’ll stick by the Flip and maybe give the Kodak away. I was not impressed with the camera set at 1080P setting.

5 Stars Our Canon camera purchased via Amazon
As long-time Amazon customers,we are accustomed to receiving our orders quickly, but in this case, there was an unusually long delay, especially considering the fact that it was advertised as being “in stock”.

Also, we had expected to receive a memory card with it, however we evidently failed to follow Amazon’s ordering procedure properly, so perhaps it was a case of not following the rules “fine-print?

On the plus side, the camera is a remarkable product, and contrary to various negative customer reviews, ours functions perfectly, and we are pleased with it.

Thank you,

5 Stars Good deal
I bought this camera because of the size. My camera that I have been using for several years is much larger and not convenient to carry to the beach. This camera is very small and easy to carry and has all the features of my larger one. I am very pleased with the performance so far.

3 Stars Great Point & Shoot with Issues
I bought this when my Sony Cybershot died. After weeks of researching, I decided on this camera. It seemed you can’t beat it for the price. I’m an amateur photographer and my main camera is a Canon Rebel Xti DSLR. I wanted a camera to put in my pocket when I don’t feel like lugging around my DSLR. Here’s the good and the bad of this camera, I’ve had for a few months now…

Pros:

-Great, amazing, crisp Macro shots! This camera rivals my DSLR for Macro quality, beads of water on plants, flowers, food, etc. anything close up and this camera shines.

-Outdoors this camera takes great landscape photos. Even at night, given you use a tripod this camera has great infinity detail.

-Compact and slim enough to fit in jeans pocket.

-Battery life, as with all Canons, is amazing. I’ll use it for almost a week straight without needing a charge.

-LCD is great, very vibrant, too vibrant I think, pics aren’t as contrasted as it makes them look, but great nonetheless.

Cons:

-Flash is really harsh! So bad to where it’s almost unusable indoors at night. My last camera had an option to adjust the flast either + or – one setting to adjust it’s strenghth and I almost always left in on the minus (-) setting. If this camera had that, I’d give it 4 stars. It’s so harsh that I’m considering a Gary Fong diffuser for it and permanently attaching it to it. It just blows out subjects, especially in Macro, forget about it.

-Zoom is glitchy. The zoom constantly isn’t smooth. It’ll catch as I zoom in or out periodically and stall as I hold down the zoom switch.

-It’s very slippery. This camera has a very smooth finish and makes it easy to slip out of your hands. There’s nothing to grip ontom it’s all one smooth surface.

Conclusion: This is a great camera for outdoors and macro shots, but indoors suffers, as most point and shoot cameras do, with a harsh flash. I’d look for a camera with an adjustable flash level because all digital camera’s flashes by default are too bright and harsh for indoors. For $150 though, you can’t ask for too much from this little camera…

5 Stars Got what i expected!
This is the 4th Canon Powershot I have owned and I love this one the best. The camera has a great feature that autofocuses and takes quick photos–something I find really important with moving targets like children. Kids move and change expressions very quickly so the continuous autofocus button (which some could find annoying)I find does the trick! And its ability to remove red eye is better than the older versions I have owned. The only thing I am hoping is that the lens error message and lens getting stuck doesnt happen with this one. But because I already knew the features and have the charger it was a good investment. And the orange color makes it unique and easy to keep track of in a room full of cameras.

4 Stars Perfect for a Basic Point & shoot camera
I love this camera…This is my first time to buy a canon product. And I’m loving it.. THough I am still learning how to use the special features of the camera for a certain occassion..I love the portability..But there’s some negative about this camera.I got 2 kids thats always on the move & I want to take their pictures when they’re having fun playing w/o noticing me taking those shots, even if I use the kids & pet mode but w/o flash, the pictures were blurry, really blurry…So I have to use the flash even we’re in indoor location..Most of the times I used flash because pictures were blurry unless you used a tripod..On the other hand, the MACRO mode is great. I love that the background is blurry but the main subject is very clear & crisp..Moreover, the video is really really great.. No unneccessary noise in the background, video is in HD. Love it..

All in all, this camera is perfect for just point & shoot, an all day handy, ready to go everyday camera…Don’t keep turning it on just to look at the pictures on the screen, it will drain the battery fast. And makes the camera hot..And I am still in the process of exploring how to use this caera efficiently & how to take great great great pictures of my kids..
