5 Stars Great point and shoot, case recommendation
Im not going to review the merits of this point and shoot camera. Other reviews pretty much echo the pros and cons. We find it a great portable point and shoot camera. The “wide angle” aspect really makes pictures look like they are encompassing more area compared to my previous cameras. I would recommend that users looking for a small sleek and fitting case get the Caselogic UNZT-2. We got it and fits wonders. Check out my review on that product for more details. Caselogic UNZT-2 Compact Camera Case (Blue/Compressed Flower)

5 Stars Pack & Go
I am a big fan of Canon and Nikon products. This camera is a little gem as it is light and portable. I use a Canon for work related matters and it serves my needs quite well. Its compact style makes it all the more appealing.

If you need something that is user friendly and ready to go, then you want this camera.

5 Stars Great Camera
Purchased two of these for my daughters. They both love this camera. The camera was recommended by Consumer Reports. Takes very good pictures and fun to use. Have had good luck with other Canon digital cameras for years. Easy to hold and use of the controls.

4 Stars Be Aware–No printed manual comes with the camera
I just bought this camera a few days ago to serve as a back-up camera for me while I send my Canon SD870IS out for service as well as be something my daughter can use as she gets more involved in taking her own photos. So far, this seems to be a pretty good camera and many of the features I was already used to using on my other Canon are there, but some are not as easy to locate as they are on the SD870. That’s where reading the detailed 148-page users manual will come in handy. Unfortunately, despite reading quite a few positive reviews about the camera before purchasing it, I never noticed anyone mention the fact that Canon is no longer providing the PRINTED copy of the 148-page users manual in the box. It’s great that it is provided on a CD and is easily loaded to your computer, particularly when you have misplaced the printed copy and need to look something up, but that’s not very convenient for when you are a new owner and are trying to learn to use the camera or don’t have access to your computer and need to find out how to do something. I definitely want to have a printed copy of the manual, so I now have to decide if I am going to print it myself or buy a copy of the manual from someone online who sells camera manuals. This is an unexpected expense and unexpected delay in getting up to speed on taking advantage of the capabilities of the camera. It’s only been 2 1/2 years since I bought my last Canon camera–and it came with a printed manual–so I was not aware of this obvious cost-cutting step that Canon has taken with it products. I’m still glad that I have the camera, but I don’t appreciate having to get my own copy of the printed manual. I would have preferred to pay a bit more for the camera in order to have the manual there in the box. FYI…If you lose the Canon CD that your manual is on and no longer have it on your computer, you can download the manual from the Canon web site and can read it online just fine, but if you have to print it out from a download you get from the Canon web site it will print with the word ‘COPY’ in a medium-gray color across each page. You can, however read through the medium-gray ‘COPY’.

5 Stars WOW
What a camera !! the pics are beautiful and the options are amazing , this is definitely the best of non-touch screen , digital camera.

The design is also nice and the size is perfect .

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Fabulous camera for Senior Citizen
I have a couple of digital cameras but my 78 yr old husband needed a camera with a viewfinder that was easy to operate and would generate clear pictures despite his hands being unsteady most of the time. This camera does it all! This camera is almost perfect in every way ! The only feature that we both are a bit disappointed in is the on/off button is small and level with the camera body,so it a bit hard to use. We would have preferred if the button has been raised a bit or even had a left to right on/off instead of an up/down button.I realize the goal was to keep the camera’s body small so button size was compromised to have room for everything.

We have never been so impressed with a camera’s ease of operation while giving you so many shooting options. I printed the full manual from the Canon USA website (136 pages) and gave it to my husband to read and learn before his 60th high school reunion in late Aug. He pretty well has mastered the camera overnight. The pictures are so clear, the color balanced and we have absolutely nothing to complain about regarding picture quality.

Clearly we are not advance photographers so don’t expect an in depth technical review. This is just a great point and shoot camera and it’s no wonder it gets such high marks on all camera web sites. Everyone loves this camera because it’s so easy to operate and produces great pictures. We love it too !!

2 Stars Too bad… A great little camera that takes awful pictures.
How disappointing! I currently own a Canon Powershot sd800is and I love it. Perfect pics & videos, excellent battery life, durable, no issues whatsoever. When my daughter saved her money up for a digital camera I really didn’t look much farther than Canon because I wanted her to have a great camera. Since the sd800is is no longer available we picked the updated version, the sd1200is, which has more mega-pixels and zoom than my old one.

When it arrived, we charged the battery and began taking indoor pictures. They were very blurry and they had a yellowish-orange glow. (We even had one that showed a blue & green orb floating by my staircase. STRANGE!) I tried adjusting the settings to fix the issues, but nothing worked. I’m not a camera expert, but I understand what most of the features and menu itmes do. I have used them on my sd800is with much success. I had my husband and his brother (both are smart techy guys) work with the camera. Still, we could not get it to take clear pictures. When I tried to take pics outside they came out virtually white, completely overexposed. My daughter tried taking some pics and did have success, but only if she took them in pitch darkness with the flash on. They were clear and sharp with good color. They looked like they had been taken with my old camera. But, how practical is a camera that only works in the dark???

I called Canon support and they took me through the same steps I had already tried, finally suggesting that I ship it in for service. They were very friendly, helpful, and professional, but they couldn’t replace the product, only service mine and return it to me in about 3 weeks.

After considering my 30 day return window with Amazon, I decided by the time I would get it back from Canon, if I wasn’t satisfied, I wouldn’t be able to return it. So I declined the Canon service and simply returned it to Amazon, which was also a very simple and painless process.

We ended up spending less than half as much on a Polaroid t1031. It doesn’t have all the cool features the Canon has (no video either), but it does have image stabilization, a rechargeable battery, and the greatest part… it takes good pictures! And she has some money left in her pocket so that’s a good thing as well.

I won’t say, “Don’t buy a Canon” because I love my old one and the features and customer service are great. I will say, “Don’t be afraid to return it.” Most of the reviews are great, but sometimes you get a lemon like I did. I chose not to make lemonade, I sent it back and got some pretty delicious orange soda. YUM!!!

5 Stars Great: But early to tell
The camera arrived quickly but does not come with a memory card so we couldn’t us it until we figured out which memory card we needed…this was another $30. Camera seems to work fine although we haven’t used it enough to judge the battery life. Overall, quite happy with the camera and it came highly recommended from a friend so we expect to enjoy it as much as she has…

5 Stars Wonderful
I love this camera ,I’ve been looking for a small digetal with a view window for some time ,almost all of the newer cameras come with out and you can’t see on a sunny day what your taking. Easy to use . I had to download the instruction DVD booklet ,136 pages for all of it uses so i wish it had come with it in booklet form other than that it’s a great camera and a great price.

5 Stars A huge improvement
This Canon SD1200 was purchased as replacement for my old Olympus Styus 300. It has triple the megapixels, a much larger screen, and no longer has that long irritating delay between pushing the button and getting the shot. Also, it’s only about half as thick and fits a pocket even more easily. I got mine in the fun orange color.

I’m just an amateur, but the ease of use and picture quality are vastly improved. And now that the SD1300′s are out, perfectly good 1200′s can be found at bargain prices. I recommend it.

The Joby Gorillapod makes taking digital photos more fun than ever. Designed with self-timer photography in mind, the Gorillapod lets you mount your camera just about anywhere you want so that you can include everyone in your automatic shots. All you need to do is use the universal 1/4-20 screw to attach your camera to the standard tripod mount, then wrap the three flexible segmented legs securely to a nearby tree branch, fence, park bench, or anything else that’s convenient.

Say goodbye to holding your camera at arm’s length to take a photo of yourself and your friends–now you can be free to pose however you like!

Durable and innovative, the Gorillapod weighs just 1.6 ounces, or 45 grams, and can support cameras weighing up to 12.5 ounces, or 335 grams. Measuring just under six inches in length, the Gorillapod fits easily into any purse, backpack, or even jacket pocket.

5 seconds to install. Works perfectly. Turns every surface into a tripod. Small enough to put in my (7″ tall LowePro) camera bag, along with the camera. Blocks the battery door, so I put a tiny screwdrive into my camera bag, too, for quick changes.

Now I have everything.

4 Stars Get away without having a tripod!
This is a great item to have in places where you can’t bring a full size Tripod with you. I’ve used it in old buildings to get cool architecture shots….You can wrap the ‘Pod’ around a banister and take an interesting angle! you can hang it in a tree for dramatic effect! It can save the day when you forget the big tripod but keep this in the car!

Love it. Just needs a ball head so it could swivel. I still have it in the backpack.

My daugher turned me on to the small ones for my point and shoot camera’s and they’re absolutely necessary in my opinion! Especially if you don’t have the steadiest hand. These are great to take the doubt out of your shot! Need a long exposure…set the timer and go! Set it on the sidewalk and take long exposures of cars driving by…..

Be inspired!

5 Stars Wanted it for a long time
I have wanted a Joby Gorillapod for a long time. When I saw the price on this one I jumped for it. It works GREAT.

3 Stars Clever design, disappointing implementation
I bought the Gorillapod Flexible Tripod before Christmas 2009. It came to me with one of the legs detached from the body. Not wanting to give up on the tripod I used SuperGlue to reattach the leg. Less than a month later the ring that locks the camera/tripod removal mechanism has broken. The construction seems shoddy, at least on the one that I have. That said, the tripod is very clever and extremely useful. I have a small Canon point-and-shoot camera (SD850IS) that is well supported by the tripod and has been used a number of times in situations where a conventional tripod would have been awkward if not impossible. I admire the concept – but have to “ding” the rating for the obviously poor construction.

5 Stars Its cool like a toy
Nothing bad to say about this little tool for my digital camera. It works and it does what its supposed to. Great deal for the product you get.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Super little camera
I love this camera! I’m a REALTOR and use the wide angle to capture views of properties and yards. Wonderful and compact.

I would recommend to anyone looking for a point and shoot camera with no fussing.

4 Stars It’s Canon…it’s good!
Bought this Canon because…well, because I like Canon products. My other Canon Digial Elph was taken on my last trip to the UK. This one will be used for the same purpose this summer. The photos are exceptional….and it is very easy to use.

5 Stars The best camera to have…
…is one you’ll have with you. The nice thing about the Canon ELPH series is they easily fit into your pocket, are well built/designed, don’t cost a lot, come with a boatload of features, and take great pictures. The SD1300, the latest in the ELPH line continues in that tradition, adding considerable additional sophistication and sacrificing some useful functionality in the interest of cutting cost.

It is a small camera and carries with it the baggage that comes with the convenience of having to carry so little baggage. (sorry, couldn’t resist) None of the issues raised, given that they comes as part of the convenience trade-off made me consider anything other than the 5-star rating this camera deserves.

- Many of the functions are only accessible through menus, sometimes several levels deep. The good new is the Automatic and scene modes are pretty good (as long as you spend a few minutes reviewing what they really do). This camera is not intended to be used in aperture or shutter priority, let alone full manual.

- The battery life might be shorter than you expect. That’s a trade-off for having a camera that’s small and light; you get a battery that is small and light. One thing you can do is get a spare battery. That is good advice for any camera. Another thing that will help is to keep the display off as much as possible. That means using the monitor as little as possible. The “sad” part is that Canon chose to drop the optical viewfinder in this model. That means a camera that is simpler and less expensive to make but will go through batteries quicker because you must use the display when taking picture.

- The camera response is a bit slow for effectively capturing children and pets. The trick for doing that is to either have a great sense of timing and a shutter that reacts instantly or a reasonably fast ( > 4x / sec ) burst mode. This camera has neither.

Some other suggestions that apply:

- Use the lowest ISO available given your requirement for either aperture or shutter speed. To avoid getting technical, higher ISO always introduces higher noise. At issue is when it becomes noticeable. In newer dSLR cameras you can get over 1000, maybe well over depending on the camera, before the noise becomes noticeable. For this camera keeping it at or below 200 is a good idea.

- Don’t use in-camera sharpening. Digital pictures will almost always benefit from sharpening but you are better off doing it with a photo editing program. Compuer-based algorithms tend to be more sophisticated and you can better judge the results on your monitor as opposed to the camera LCD.

- If you want more vivid colors and have the choice use sRGB instead of Adobe RGB. While you get fewer colors they are distributed over a wider range. They are also render better on computer monitors, many commercial labs, and any other place your pictures are likely to show up.

Take great pictures with your Nikon D90! All you need is this training DVD and about an hour, and you’ll have the knowledge and the confidence to create the images you want. The topics are arranged in chapters, so you can move at your own pace, and return later to individual subjects. The Nikon D90 is a powerful piece of equipment. A solid understanding of its features and controls can really unleash its potential. Once you learn how the camera’s components work together, you’ll have all the tools you need to capture the best image under all conditions. This DVD is intended for photographers moving up to a Digital SLR from a Point and Shoot camera, or new D90 owners that would like a basic introduction to the camera and an overview of the most important controls. Also look for volume 2, which covers more advanced topics.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Instruction DVD not well designed
I just bought the D90 camera so was happy to find this DVD and got it and the next in the series of teaching one to use the Nikon D90. I was very disappointed in this product. It’s like they know cameras and photography but don’t have clue how to teach it. Seems like they said, “Lets talk as fast as we can and let’s make it as confusing and as difficult to follow as we can.” There was no step by step progression from one subject to the next. There was no repetition. If I taught my language classes like this the students would walk out of the class. Poorly designed by intelligent people who don’t know how to teach. So I’m returning the DVD

The second DVD is really for the advanced user with much technical talk about color and formating that only a professional would benefit from and it has the same problem of lack of progression and too much speed. Between segments there is guitar music that’s very annoying. I doubt they presented these DVDs to a focus group before putting it on the market. It would never pass.

5 Stars Excellent Overview of the Nikon D90 Camera
This is an excellent DVD designed specifically for the Nikon D90 Camera. Pause the DVD and try out the topics as they are given. This DVD as well as the advanced Digital Crane DVD will give you a fast understanding of the cameras features and settings. I would reccomend this DVD to anyone who has this camera.
