The pocketable PowerShot S90 gives powerful everyday shooting. Shoot quickly with a lens control ring and get superior low-light performance with a high-sensitivity 10.0 MP CCD and f/2.0 lens. A high-sensitivity CCD sensor gives outstanding image quality in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Even images taken at high ISOs show exceptionally low noise levels and a wide dynamic range. A bright f/2.0 aperture allows exceptional versatility, capturing low-light images and fast-moving subjects at higher shutter speeds. A wide angle of 28mm lets you put more in the frame, while Canon’s optical IS reduces blur caused by camera shake.

5 Stars Great camera for the money
This is one of the greatest cameras I have owned. Picture quality is phenomenal. Very versatile. Like taking SLR pictures with a digital point and shoot. Some people have mentioned problems accidentally moving the ring when taking pictures but I have not had this problem. The only issue I have had is that the flash often pops up where I am holding the camera. Very small but powerful. Highly recommend.

1 Star Blurry Pictures…Ugh!
I bought this item just recently. I am a point and shoot photographer. I have owned several point and shoot Canons and have been quite happy with them. This one just didn’t behave like my other Canons. Half of my pictures were blurry and all seemed to be somewhat grainy. Total diappointment! I have sent it back to Amazon. I am not sure what to buy at this point, since I have always been a Canon fan, but this has shaken my trust in the product.

4 Stars First small form camera…
Quick impressions:

1. Working through the manual is not the quickest, so am using strictly on “auto” for now. Which means my shots are likely less than optimal at this point.

2. Not sure about “low light” as flash generally takes over and what you get is a flash picture. Not sure if flash can be overridden. But shot 85 pics indoors at a wedding reception and pics turned out okay, flash and all.

3. Regarding those same pics, they appear reasonably sharp when viewed on a 26″ high definition screen, though shot and stored as high res JPG’s.

4. Heavier than I expected, but I take that as a good thing. Otherwise, very portable. As part of intent was for my wife to easily carry in her purse, as we were missing too many picture opportunities with the grandkids. And she took most of the pics at the wedding reception.

5. Display screen is nice. No issues as such. 1st camera we’ve had without a viewfinder. So getting use to that.

6. The telephoto-wide angle lever is smaller than on my prior cameras, so I find myself fumbling just a bit to get a good finger tip hold to operate, but I would expect that to ease over time.

All in all, reasonably satisfied with my purchase.

5 Stars Love this camera
When it comes to photography, I am lame. Even though I am an artist, I could arguably be the worst photographer on the planet. My mom once complained that art school was a waste after seeing my shots. Seriously.

The main issue is a combination of clunky menus that work against you in the spur of the moment, the quality of the camera, or portability. You had to compromise on something. I hate lugging gear or fumbling with a lens cap but wanted something better than a simple point and shoot. Shooting photos was more frustrating than fun. It seemed like a chore.

The S90 is a really fun camera to use and takes amazing pictures. The lcd screen is large with good color which makes it easy to compose shots. The onscreen information is really useful since I’m always forgetting something. It fits in a pocket and is easy to customize (I Googled “S90 tips” to customize settings). The control ring feels intuitive and this is the first time I can adjust shots on the fly. The layout of the buttons make sense. I have never ever ever been this comfortable with a camera.

The other reviewers on Amazon were spot on about the experience. I am one of the small group of people who are fine with the ergonomics. I would agree with others that the flash takes getting used to and the couple of times it popped up, I was startled and dropped the camera but had the wrist strap on so no harm was done.

This is a camera that is fun to use and takes amazing indoor or outdoor shots with excellent color.

p.s. The non hd video is fine for my purposes since I am a worse videographer than a photographer. Besides, if you ever import stuff into a computer, the HD files are too large to process for what most people would ever need.

5 Stars Hard to find a better one
I just want to touch a couple of points, since they seem to be the most controversial:

-the back ring, the one all the people complain about: maybe it’s my way to hold the camera, but I never accidentally moved it, so it’s not a constant. There is a website that offers, for about 3 bucks, a sort of plastic ring that goes around it and it appears it removes the problem

-battery life: I really don’t find it limiting, I shoot more than 500 pictures with it, some of them with flash

excellent camera, it happens that I bring it even when I have the reflex with me, and for travelling in big cities it’s a blessing, pocket size and wonderful pictures, a lot of control!

5 Stars Canon Camera
This camera is an amazing value for the money. Takes great pictures, easy to use, long battery life and easy to charge. Only caution is that the camera does not come with a memory card.

2 Stars Great camera, horrible company
This is a really great camera, but it is a really bad company. Canon is the worst company when it comes to getting anything repaired. When I got this camera, I noticed it had a dead pixel on the LCD. I sent it in to Canon, they sent it back not only with the dead pixel unrepaired, but they left dust between the protective screen film cover and the LCD. As a result I sent it to them a second time. When I got it back the second time, they did not fix either problem and they broke something inside the camera so a red spot kept appearing on the LCD when trying to take a picture or shoot video… I sent it in a third last week telling them to fix the problems they caused and to replace the LCD.

It returned today, they fixed the two problems they caused, but I still have the dead pixel.

The bottom line is Canon is a horrible company when it comes to repair service, if you get a defective LCD like I did, you are going to have to deal with it, because they will lie to you about trying to repair and do nothing.

Either Canon lacks integrity or their repair people are incompetent or both (probably both) and thus I have to poorly review their product, because if something else goes defective, I have no guaranteed they will be able to fix it.

5 Stars Great little camera
I had a 6 year old camera (also Canon) that I recently gave to my dad who seemed interested in taking digital pictures and I started looking for a new digital camera.

SD780IS was recommended highly and the selling point for me was the availability of a view finder as it is very hard to see what you are aiming at in bright daylight without a viewfinder.

I already have countless pictures in different environments from hot hazy days on the sea to some flowers I have that bloom only once a year (and only for a day) in all occasions the results turned out great. Clarity, picture quality it is all there.

The size of the camera is perfect, I have a red one I love its color and using it (charging the battery or downloading the pics) is so easy.

I must mention that for this price it is the best deal.

4 Stars Good pocket camera with viewfinder
I purchased this model because it was the only pocket camera I could find with an optical viewfinder. It has surpassed my expectations. See the two attached pictures. I wish the film strips could be generated in AVI files, but I can live with the MOV filetype.

5 Stars Best camera to date!
In September of 09 I purchased this camera for my son, from Amazon.com, for $225.20, with an extra battery, and free shipping & handling. I knew it was a good buy, so I ordered one for myself. I still use my older Canon cameras but this one has a sharper image and if you take snaps while driving…they couldn’t be any sharper. Note: the size is just a little slimmer than older models. My orders were for the Gold…what a buy. Thank you Amazon!

4 Stars Good Product but has some issues – can’t be your only camera
The Canon D10 malfunctioned once with the error message of “Lens Error”. We read some reviews online that had the same problem. Some of the reviewers returned the product while others just waited for the error to disappear. Since this is not our only camera, we just waited till the next day. We removed the battery overnight. The next day we replaced the battery and it worked. We have not gotten that error message again but we rarely use it. I hope it works when we need it to take that breath-taking picture icon smile Canon PowerShot D10 12 1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2 5 inch LCD

5 Stars Awesome Camera
I first bought the Olympus waterproof camera and I was disappointed with the picture quality. I didn’t know Cannon had a waterproof/shockproof/freezproof camera as well! I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and I couldnt be happier! It takes great underwater shots in the pool and still is a great point and shoot. I used it bar hopping with the friends, taking pictures at the pool, and going fishing up in the Sierra’s. I couldnt be happier. It was even dropped by a friend while bar hopping from about 5 ft and nothing happened to the camera’s functioning.

The only thing they could add is high def video, since most camera’s come with it now a days.

4 Stars Water leaked in above 33 feet – but Canon handled it well
Hello!

I anxiously awaited this camera because I had previously had a leaky waterproof Olympus camera. I had previous been very loyal to Canon and Nikon, and I regretted going to Olympus and having trouble. So was quite excited that Canon was getting into waterproof cameras.

The camera is great – great images, easy to use, great video, etc. But water leaked in rather quickly and at about 8 feet in a pool and then later in the ocean.

Each time it leaked, the LCD display would go off and there was water in the lens area. I was able to leave it alone for a few days each time and it would “repair itself” as it dried out. But this last time (the third time) it refused to turn on any longer. So I begrudgingly sent it in.

It’s been about ten days now and I got my camera back today – a new one! I think it may be slightly updated as well. I’m very excited to have it back; it has come with perfect timing.

So yes, I do actually recommend this camera (despite the leaks) because Canon handled it well and it really is a great item.

5 Stars Surprising quality!
I bought the Canon PowerShot D10 this past winter, for a Caribbean vacation. I didn’t have time to read the manual, but the back-panel controls were very intuitive and easy to figure out. It worked SO WELL in the water! I took it with me in the surf, in the pool, on a snorkeling trip, and the pictures all turned out wonderfully. Once I finally had time to read the manual I realized that it offers more adjustments than I’d realized – and, after playing around with it a bit, I’ve found it can adapt to just about any shooting situation. My “real” camera is a Nikon D80 digital SLR … but, on my next vacation, the PowerShot is coming along instead – it’s much more portable, offers just as many megapixels, and I won’t need to worry about using it in the rain.

4 Stars Does the Job
i don’t know what the problem is? i had purchased this camera for a huge family vacation at the Bahamas. I read the reviews and the problems that might occur, (water seeping into camera etc) i did research and came to the conclusion that this was the best camera for price. After reading reviews regarding warrenty etc, i made sure i followed instructions carefully and made sure ALL CLOSURES were closed (battery flap etc)

turned out to be an excellent camera and would recommend it. Made the vacation snorkeling and swimming that much better!

4 Stars Canon Powershot A490
So far, we’re happy with this camera. It does not come with a card, so be prepared for that.

It is small and has a handy little carrying case; more lightweight than our previous Canons.

And the pictures have been fine.

1 Star works only on flash
without flash, picture and video quality is very poor, video is dull, picture colors get off, forget about taking a picture of none-still person. the picture size is big but it doesn’t guaranty good quality.

the picture quality is good with the flash, but it doesn’t last long, the “Charging the flash” message between pictures appeared after 20 shots on a new pair of battery.

4 Stars Good camera for a low price
I’ve had this camera for two weeks, and I’m almost completely satisfied.

Good:

Easy to use for basic point-and-shoot pictures and zooming

Quick to turn on

Picture quality is good

Not so good:

Several of our outdoor zoomed pictures had a noticable streak/lens flare if the camera was pointed in the same general direction as the sun.

As with most digital cameras, the instructions are skimpy and the features are indicated by cryptic little icons.

The screen seems fragile, although nothing has damaged it yet. Maybe not a problem.

Overall, not perfect, but quite worth the price.

3 Stars Well…
This camera takes GORGEOUS pictures, however, the battery life REALLY SUCKS!!! I bought the camera as a gift and my mom loves it, however, she says, “I have to carry about 50 batteries when I go out”. That part of it is sad…however, the pictures come out amazing!!!

5 Stars Never underestimate this camera’s performance by its low price.
The irony in the camera’s world is the cheaper the camera, the better the picture quality. This is true at least in my case. For years I’ve owned the following cameras in the order of their prices:

Canon A490 ($95) (5 stars)

Canon Xsi ($612) (5 stars)

Canon T2i ($849) (4 stars)

Nikon D70 ($1,000) (4 stars)

Canon 50D ($1,110) (3 stars)

Unfortunately, the order of the picture quality is just the opposite—Canon A490 being the best (5-star) and Canon 50D being the worst.

You can never complain anything about A490. Too bad I can’t post here stunningly beautiful pictures taken with my A490 that I recently purchased from Amazon.
