5 Stars Fantastic Camera for all Users
A wonderful camera, despite the user’s skill level.

Because of the size and weight, the portability isn’t exactly optimized, but it’s far better than carrying around a full size professional SLR.

Pictures are of amazing quality- don’t bother spending an extra $50-$75 for two more mega pixels! The zoom is wonderful- it’s a great camera. I’m very happy with it, and recently bought it to take it with me to a 5 week study abroad trip in London. It never let me down!

Another great feature is that the camera has a setting where the front display tells you how many pictures it has left on the memory card based on what setting you’re using.

IMAGE STABILIZATION is a life saver- especially for a traveller- and nearly guarantees a great picture every time. Easy to use camera- you turn it on and within seconds you know how to use it.

3 Stars Very pleased with picture quality – until it broke!
This camera produced some beautiful pictures for me…but then it broke after less than two weeks of heavy use. So it gets three stars.

Despite it’s early demise, this camera and I took about 600 pictures at different settings and got to know each other quite well.

Dislikes:

- Bulky and heavy. There is no way to comfortable carry this camera around and still have it readily available, unless you hang a case around your neck or on you belt. Compared to other digital cameras, this puppy is huge!

- No decent dynamic range compensation. If you’re background is very bright, don’t try to take pictures of dark subjects. Also, I found it impossible to take good pictures of people wearing baseball-style hats in bright sunlight, because the camera either the face was too shadowed to recognize or the highlights were completely blown out.

- In program mode, the camera always defaults back to the ‘center averaged’ exposure control setting, which sucked when taking high-contrast photos. Using ‘spot metering’ was the only way I could get acceptable shots of people and bright backgrounds.

- No zoom during video. I’ve owned other a-series before, and this has always been an annoyance. I was able to take some good video of a helicopter as it landed, but it took about six tries. Also, camera shake is pretty bad during the video without having some kind of object to stabalize your hand on.

- No wide angle lens. Really missed this during group shots.

- Durability. After less than a month of ownership, the camera simply froze. I couldn’t get the screen to turn on or the lens to retract. This is the second time a canon has done this to me, and the last time I will be buying one for the foreseeable future. To be fair, it did experience some hot and dusty conditions, but my Panasonic has been through similar conditions and three years later still works just fine.

Likes:

- At its best, this camera took pictures to rival a DSLR. Seriously, I took pictures alongside another person with a Canon Rebel, and our pictures came out very similar. We even switched cameras for a bit and the only real improvement I noticed was the almost instantaneous focusing speed of the rebel. Reviewing the images, I also noticed that the rebel produced a very nice background blur for portrait shots, while the background remained sharp for the A120IS. But at a $800 price difference, I was very happy with my camera. Also, its smaller size meant that I caught more spontaneous shots than her because I could carry my camera with me everywhere.

- AA batteries. I spent two weeks with no electricity and never had to worry. This camera ate a set of batteries every day and a half, but I brought about a million AA’s so it wasn’t a problem. It also accounts for most of the bulk of the camera, but it was worth it to be able to take as many pictures as I wanted.

- Fast. From sitting in my helmet on the ground, to taking a very nice picture of a fire truck speeding by was just a few seconds. I never missed a shot because the camera wasn’t fast enough.

- Long zoom. With the lens fully extended, this camera picked up on slightly more details than I could see with my naked eye. There was also no distortion at all.

- Decent low-light photography. This camera had a hard time with multiple fast-moving subjects under florescent lights, but that is very forgivable. Otherwise, it performed relatively well in dim lighting conditions.

Overall, I was very happy with this camera. For a very low price, it took some gorgeous pictures. It’s definitely fighting above it’s weight class. Yes, you make some trade offs, but if you’re looking for something cheap, AA battery powered that still takes good pictures, I would highly recommend this camera to you.

I would say this camera’s ideal use is as a back-up camera or as a vacation camera. Just don’t expect it to last.

5 Stars I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!
I just received this yesterday. Was out yesterday and today testing it out. Replaced it with an old canon s400 which was great so I figured Canon was the way to go. The Zoom works great and the pictures in high resolution are lifelike. Can’t comment on battery life yet but I have taken a couple hundred pictures at least on the original batteries that came with camera. Went and bought the Sanyo Eneloop 4 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries w/ Charger from amazon since battery life seemed to be lacking from previous reviews. All I can really say is this is the best camera I have ever used and I thank God that I was born at a time of such great technological advances.

3 Stars Doesn’t replace Powershot S2 IS
I purchased this PowerShoot SX120IS to replace my Powershot S2 IS, which functioned very well for me but started using batteries at a prodigious rate. The “upgrade” was less than satisfactory.

1) Shape & size: The shape and smaller size of the SX120 do not allow me to get a firm and comfortable grasp of the camera with my left hand.

2) Weight: I prefer the additional weight of the S2, suspecting that I had less camera shake.

3) Viewfinder: I have never had a camera until now without a viewfinder. I thought I could adjust to its lack in the SX120, but this is like waking up in the morning with my right arm missing. Well, perhaps a touch of hyperbole.

4) LCD monitor. The larger LCD monitor on the SX120 is fun, and makes messages easy to read. The monitor on the S2, however, could swing out and swivel up or down, making it ideal for shots in a crowd with the camera above the head or a horizontal shot in the wetlands at ground level.

5) Neck strap: The S2 had two eyelets for a neckstrap, which was ideal for the way I used the camera–hands free until I needed the camera, but the camara immediately accessible. The SX120 has only one eyelet for a small hand strap, requiring one hand to hold the camera, or requiring the camera to be tucked into a case.

6) User manual: I referred to the substantial user manual for the S2 often enough that I packed it in the camera case. The user manual for the SX120 is only online.

The functions for the two cameras are similar but not identical, and the ways of accessing them are sufficiently alike that the transition from the S2 to the SX120 was smooth. The Easy mode of the SX120 is a handy way for another family member to use the camera without giving detailed instructions.

I’ll get along with this camera, but for things that are important to me, this is a downgrade. I wish that I had researched this purchase more thoroughly.

4 Stars Good pocket camera with viewfinder
I purchased this model because it was the only pocket camera I could find with an optical viewfinder. It has surpassed my expectations. See the two attached pictures. I wish the film strips could be generated in AVI files, but I can live with the MOV filetype.

5 Stars Canon Camera
This camera is an amazing value for the money. Takes great pictures, easy to use, long battery life and easy to charge. Only caution is that the camera does not come with a memory card.

5 Stars Great little camera
I had a 6 year old camera (also Canon) that I recently gave to my dad who seemed interested in taking digital pictures and I started looking for a new digital camera.

SD780IS was recommended highly and the selling point for me was the availability of a view finder as it is very hard to see what you are aiming at in bright daylight without a viewfinder.

I already have countless pictures in different environments from hot hazy days on the sea to some flowers I have that bloom only once a year (and only for a day) in all occasions the results turned out great. Clarity, picture quality it is all there.

The size of the camera is perfect, I have a red one I love its color and using it (charging the battery or downloading the pics) is so easy.

I must mention that for this price it is the best deal.

5 Stars Best camera to date!
In September of 09 I purchased this camera for my son, from Amazon.com, for $225.20, with an extra battery, and free shipping & handling. I knew it was a good buy, so I ordered one for myself. I still use my older Canon cameras but this one has a sharper image and if you take snaps while driving…they couldn’t be any sharper. Note: the size is just a little slimmer than older models. My orders were for the Gold…what a buy. Thank you Amazon!

2 Stars Great camera, horrible company
This is a really great camera, but it is a really bad company. Canon is the worst company when it comes to getting anything repaired. When I got this camera, I noticed it had a dead pixel on the LCD. I sent it in to Canon, they sent it back not only with the dead pixel unrepaired, but they left dust between the protective screen film cover and the LCD. As a result I sent it to them a second time. When I got it back the second time, they did not fix either problem and they broke something inside the camera so a red spot kept appearing on the LCD when trying to take a picture or shoot video… I sent it in a third last week telling them to fix the problems they caused and to replace the LCD.

It returned today, they fixed the two problems they caused, but I still have the dead pixel.

The bottom line is Canon is a horrible company when it comes to repair service, if you get a defective LCD like I did, you are going to have to deal with it, because they will lie to you about trying to repair and do nothing.

Either Canon lacks integrity or their repair people are incompetent or both (probably both) and thus I have to poorly review their product, because if something else goes defective, I have no guaranteed they will be able to fix it.

5 Stars Awesome Camera
I first bought the Olympus waterproof camera and I was disappointed with the picture quality. I didn’t know Cannon had a waterproof/shockproof/freezproof camera as well! I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and I couldnt be happier! It takes great underwater shots in the pool and still is a great point and shoot. I used it bar hopping with the friends, taking pictures at the pool, and going fishing up in the Sierra’s. I couldnt be happier. It was even dropped by a friend while bar hopping from about 5 ft and nothing happened to the camera’s functioning.

The only thing they could add is high def video, since most camera’s come with it now a days.

4 Stars Good Product but has some issues – can’t be your only camera
The Canon D10 malfunctioned once with the error message of “Lens Error”. We read some reviews online that had the same problem. Some of the reviewers returned the product while others just waited for the error to disappear. Since this is not our only camera, we just waited till the next day. We removed the battery overnight. The next day we replaced the battery and it worked. We have not gotten that error message again but we rarely use it. I hope it works when we need it to take that breath-taking picture icon smile Canon PowerShot D10 12 1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2 5 inch LCD

4 Stars Does the Job
i don’t know what the problem is? i had purchased this camera for a huge family vacation at the Bahamas. I read the reviews and the problems that might occur, (water seeping into camera etc) i did research and came to the conclusion that this was the best camera for price. After reading reviews regarding warrenty etc, i made sure i followed instructions carefully and made sure ALL CLOSURES were closed (battery flap etc)

turned out to be an excellent camera and would recommend it. Made the vacation snorkeling and swimming that much better!

5 Stars Surprising quality!
I bought the Canon PowerShot D10 this past winter, for a Caribbean vacation. I didn’t have time to read the manual, but the back-panel controls were very intuitive and easy to figure out. It worked SO WELL in the water! I took it with me in the surf, in the pool, on a snorkeling trip, and the pictures all turned out wonderfully. Once I finally had time to read the manual I realized that it offers more adjustments than I’d realized – and, after playing around with it a bit, I’ve found it can adapt to just about any shooting situation. My “real” camera is a Nikon D80 digital SLR … but, on my next vacation, the PowerShot is coming along instead – it’s much more portable, offers just as many megapixels, and I won’t need to worry about using it in the rain.

4 Stars Water leaked in above 33 feet – but Canon handled it well
Hello!

I anxiously awaited this camera because I had previously had a leaky waterproof Olympus camera. I had previous been very loyal to Canon and Nikon, and I regretted going to Olympus and having trouble. So was quite excited that Canon was getting into waterproof cameras.

The camera is great – great images, easy to use, great video, etc. But water leaked in rather quickly and at about 8 feet in a pool and then later in the ocean.

Each time it leaked, the LCD display would go off and there was water in the lens area. I was able to leave it alone for a few days each time and it would “repair itself” as it dried out. But this last time (the third time) it refused to turn on any longer. So I begrudgingly sent it in.

It’s been about ten days now and I got my camera back today – a new one! I think it may be slightly updated as well. I’m very excited to have it back; it has come with perfect timing.

So yes, I do actually recommend this camera (despite the leaks) because Canon handled it well and it really is a great item.

5 Stars EXCELLENT!!!
Slim, light weight, large screen, well packed and shipped with just a little delay. EXCELLENT product! Thanks!

5 Stars Worth Considering
This camera surprised me. First of all, my personal cameras are big Nikons, so my ego tells me that this little camera is a toy and isn’t going to come close. I do have a point and shoot – a Canon G10, which is still a big, full featured camera with a lot of bells and whistles. I picked this out for a friend who absolutely didn’t want a larger camera (not enough purse room). I honestly expected to be disappointed.

And I was delighted instead. I opened the box and charged the battery and promptly discovered that there was no thick manual but a thin ‘getting started’ pamphlet. OK, thought I, I’ll play along, This was intended to be a camera for a non-reader of manuals so let’s pretend… I put the battery and a memory card in the camera, followed the pamphlet and bang (or rather, ‘click’) I had a great picture of my cat. Undaunted I headed outside and started aiming it at trees and scenery. And it did a great job every time. Loaded the pictures into photoshop and was suitably impressed with the image quality. And not once did I take the camera of Auto.

I eventually discovered the manual buried away on the accompanying CD and discovered that just under the covers was a very sophisticated machine. Plenty of options should my friend ever decide to go beyond point and shoot. Since the camera has image stabilization and is smart about shifting into macro I’m not sure that that ever will be necessary. But if she wants to shoot fireworks, theres a setting for that (and a whole bunch of other things).

Probably the most important feature of the camera is that it uses a touch screen rather than a lot of knobs and buttons. This will take a bit of getting used to, but once you learn how (and where) to tap on the screen you will find that most features are very easy to use. And the screen is quite large. One warning though – there’s no viewfinder, and big screens can be hard to read in direct sunlight. So there are times when you will have to point, squint, and shoot. Another thing to keep in mind with a large view screen is that, scratch resistant or not, if you drop it in your purse with a bunch of keys you will eventually scratch it. Get a small case of some sort (there are countless options).

This is a very good buy if the price is within your budget. Truth is, I’m not in any hurry to present it to my friend.

5 Stars Superb
It’s about the right size for a handy camera…not bulky!

The touch feature is very convenient and easy to use.

5 Stars Great camera for the value
I purchased this camera recently from Amazon. When I bought it I paid roughly U$ 270, which was a very good price when the same camera was advertised by other vendors at over U$ 300. For the money I paid, this camera is awsome. I am personally not too fond of touchscreens (I am more into the “analog” and “buttons” designs.. call me old fashioned), but this camera blew my mind. The touch screen is so intuitive you can get to every corner of the menu in seconds. It has nice futures as touching an area of the picture to select where to focus. Other things it has are creative effects, like selecting one particular color and leaving the rest of the image in black and white: this creates very nice artistic images whan you want a particular item to stand out in the picture. You can even select any color in the image and swap (in real time) for another… I tried taking a shot at the swimming pool, which locked pale and white, and swapped for an aquamarine turquoise which really enhanced the picture without making it cheesy or fake-looking… It’s like working with Photoshop in real time.. The camera is really small and practical. As I had read in other reviews, the batery/SD lid is quite flimsy, built of a thin plastic which doesen’t look very promising. The lids on the HDMI and USB connections also look like they’ll break before the camera’s first birthday. However, this is not a tough-built, rugged camera to take under the rain or on the trail, so provided you serve its intended use (parties, home, theatre, and anywhere where you’d take reasonable good care of a high quality optic instrument!), you should be fine. It doesen’t require silk gloves… just don’t fumble with the lids too often. The quality of the pictures is good but not outstanding, at least in auto modes indoors (I have an Olympus 570UZ which I think handles white balance more nicely). The HDMI is superb, and the real plus is the 24mm equivalent widescreen, which is great for indoor group pictures where little space would usually require everyone to huddle up so as to fit in the picture.. I would purchase this again.

5 Stars I am loving this camera
This is the third Canon PowerShot digital camera, which I have owned. Each has worked perfectly and the only reason I keep buying new models is that new features are introduced, which compel me to purchase the next generation…. good marketing, Canon!

What I love about this model: the tap-screen back, which enables one to quickly identify what part of the scene is to be tightly focused. And the 24 mm wide-angle lens (speaking in terms reserved for 35 mm cameras) is SENSATIONAL. It enables me to get much richer, more interesting shots than my previous PowerShot SD950 IS digital camera.

While the digital sensor in this point-and-shoot camera is no where near as large as the sensor in my CanonDigital Rebel T1i SLR, and cannot match the impeccable imaging of the larger camera, the PowerShot provides a stunning back-up camera — I am never without it. In Washington DC, last month, I was walking by the US Capital at 10 pm and had only my PowerShot SD3500 IS with me. I caught the gorgeous, lit dome and its mirror image in the reflecting pool in a shot that deserves to grace postcards or calendars. Love my PowerShot!

1 Star too bad it broke..
The camera was great except that you can’t set it down, it falls over because of the rounded edges, if you set it down, the camera falls over on to its screen or the lense. The lense does not come with a cap, and is just naked in the air all the time. It did take pretty good pictures until it broke, I bought it in February and it is now May, and I am sending it in.

1 Star THINK TWICE ABOUT THIS PURCHASE
My husband and I purchased this camera in December 2009. We are active kayakers, hikers and adventurers, so we wanted a camera that could handle a variety of conditions in and out of the water. We were very pleased with the camera, initially. However, we were sorely disappointed when it showed a “Lens error. Restart camera” error at the beginning of our most recent kayak trip ONLY FIVE MONTHS after purchase!! This error immediately prevented us from taking pictures in any kind of dependable way. It essentially shut down the camera. I just called Canon customer service to discuss the issue, but they can only repair the camera. They refuse to replace it. I sincerely feel that this is a defective product, especially having seen this issue arise in other reviews. My husband and I really thought we had found a great camera for our active lifestyle, but it sure let us down after only a couple of trips. This is, after all, supposed to be Canon’s most rugged and durable camera (and, ironically, the customer support team told me we had done something to cause the lens to move out of place!). What is most disappointing is that we have an older Canon Powershot that has done the same thing. Clearly, Canon has a quality control issue with its lens setup. We are going to think twice about purchasing another Canon in the future.

5 Stars Best camera ever
I bought this camera almost a year ago, and I LOVE it! It has been underwater in Key West, with manatees in Crystal River, FL, in waves in the Gulf of Mexico, and in hot tubs, pools, waterfalls, showers, bath tubs, and in the rain! It also goes everywhere to take pictures when I am NOT under water. icon wink Canon PowerShot D10 12 1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2 5 inch LCD It is easy to use, has very good battery life, and is shock resistant so I do not worry about it. My 6 year old niece loves using it too, and takes great pictures with it. Software is super easy to load, and you just plug USB cord from camera to computer to upload pictures from camera to computer. Features are great. Love black and white, sepia, and color accent features. Sunset, kid/pets, and night scene are modes I use a lot.

With all my cameras in the past, I had to worry about not taking my camera in kayaks, canoes, or to the beach, or had to risk ruining the camera if I did take it. Now this camera goes everywhere. It has a cool “submarine” look. My brother bought one after I loved mine so much. We bought an accessory kit (which I would definitely recommend even though it is expensive) and put the camo color panel on his to replace the bright blue. The accessory kit also has optional carry straps which I have found to be useful, and a cool neoprene case.

Everybody asks me about this camera–where can they get one, and so on. I would highly recommend it. A few “cons” or suggestions: 1) I am very careful with the seals, and never open the battery compartment or USB door if camera is damp, or if I am outside near dirt or sand. 2) This camera is not as tiny as some, which was a drawback for me. However, it gets far better reviews as far as picture quality than any of the other waterproof cameras I have seen or heard about, and I have not been at all disappointed with my choice! It fits easily into a purse or backpack of course, you don’t even feel it. It just isn’t tiny enough to fit comfortably into a pocket. 3) It only has a 3.0 x optical zoom. This was a drawback for me. However, the photo quality is amazing to me even with digital zoom to 12.0 x. (Probably would not be if blowing up big enlargements.) 4) Flash is too bright to me when close up. Really wish it had a soft flash, or half flash. However, camera takes photos without flash in all but the lowest light. 5) Battery life is great. However, it doesn’t give you much notice about battery being low before it goes completely dead. I also bought an extra battery–got one for great price on Amazon–and this makes a huge difference…I always have one battery charged.

Buy the camera, and have fun!

5 Stars Thrilled
This is the second D10 I’ve owned in two weeks. The first one was stolen from me. During the short time I’ve owned a D10, I’ve taken them sailing and snorkeling. During sailing I dunked camera underwater and videod as we sailed along(see youtube, hobie 16 underwater). I’m astounded with the underwater results I have gotten with this camera, and have had no negative issues with it whatsoever. The stills and the video I’ve taken have impressed me from the standpoint that they were taken in somewhat murky water and limited light conditions, and the vivid results were very impressive. The only complaint I have is this: if you need the flash to take extreme macro shots, there will be a shadow due to the configuration of the lens relative to the flash. It is rarely an issue.

5 Stars Best Ever
This is the best camera I ever owned. I live in The Bahamas and use this camera all the time. In the boat on fishing trips and it takes great pictures. Easy to use and durable.
